Choral prelude

It is a short liturgical  composition for organ which preface  the chorale in Lutheran churches. considered  J.S. Bach is considered to be  the most prominent representative. In this polyphonic composition  the choral melody usually appears  on bass. The chorale prelude also appears in works like  cantatas  and oratorios.
